Summer Camp is open to ages 7 through 15 years, and is divided into different sessions.  Be sure and read the session descriptions to assist you in choosing the appropriate age and riding level.  MCR Lessons Camp is exciting and jam-packed, with activities that fill each and every day of camp.  On the first day, you will receive a Marshall Creek Ranch Camp T-Shirt, as well as assignment to your very own horse for the week.  At the start of each day, you will retrieve your horse from the stall to begin working towards your goals.  You will also be working on a special project at camp that you can’t show your parents until the End of Camp Barbeque.  I promise, you’ll be very proud to show off what you have learned from thirty hours of instruction and riding.  You will begin working in the arena, then you and your horse will hit the open trail each day to put your lessons into action!  Don’t delay in getting your application sent in, as slots fill up quickly.  Each session is limited to a maximum of ten, so you will be put on a waiting list once a session is filled.

Seats are filling fast, so………..LET’S GET READY TO RIDE!!!!

SESSION DESCRIPTIONS:

Session I

This session is designed for the inexperienced rider.  Either you’ve never ridden a horse at all, or you’ve only ridden a few times at a stable or ranch, but have had no formal training in proper technique, balance, or horse behavior.

You’ll be excited to know that by the time you’re done with an intensive week filled with fun and learning, you’ll be in control of your horse and relaxed in the saddle.  You’ll be going on long excursions through heavy woods, and learning how to open ride along the beautiful lakeshore.  Pay attention during your safety classes, or you may be eating spinach instead of Strawberry Shortcake!!  Check out the Schedule of Events in your Let’s Get Ready for Camp packet, to see what you and your horse will be doing each day!

Session II

This session is for the intermediate rider.  You must successfully complete a Session I Camp, or have completed beginner lessons at an established riding facility.  This session will take you through some serious trail maneuvers over heavily obstacled terrain, steep creek crossings, deep woods scouting, and bareback riding to go swimming with your horse.  You will be working on galloping gaits, so you must be comfortable in the saddle and ready to move!

Session III

This session is for the intermediate rider who has completed a Marshall Creek Ranch Session II Camp.  We are very aware of your abilities and limitations, and will work on improving your confidence and riding skill.  This session is all about time in the saddle.  Every day is a different, lengthy excursion among the 12,000 acres, along with changing terrain and ability levels.  Be advised that there is an overnight stay on Thursday of your camp week, along with a night ride!!  This is a heavily supervised session with a one to one ratio of camper to Wrangler, including the overnight.  You will be assigned a different horse for each day of your Session to increase your awareness of horse behavior and improving your skill level.  You won’t believe how much better you’ll be by the end of camp!!  Get Ready!

Choose the Summer Camp that’s right for you, then print out the Application Form. A deposit of $50.00 is required for registration, so be sure and get your form mailed in as soon as possible.  A waiting list will form once classes are filled.  The remaining $325.00 will be due the first day of camp. Once you are registered into Lessons Camp, you will receive a packet from MCR containing your dates, Schedule of Events, Medical Questionnaire, and Minor Riding Release Form.  Check the Let’s Get Ready for Campsection included in your packet, prior to your first day, so that you are Ready to Ride!!

For more information check out the Frequently Asked Questions.  This may help answer some of YOUR questions regarding MCR’s Horseback Riding Camp.
